Today I want to share a quick way to give our confidence a boost that feels GREAT! I call this “Celebrating a Win”.
Our brains tend to want to focus on the negative, our “fails”, how we’re doing terribly and not reaching our goals. This usually send us into a self-doubt/failure spiral that leaves us unmotivated, uninspired and exhausted. Doing this little trick is a way to short-circuit our natural tendencies and, as an added bonus, gives us a little happy chemical boost.
So how do we do this?
Step 1: Look back at your past week and find 1 win … could be ANYTHING. It doesn’t matter if you think you have a pile of fails. Dig deep and find 1 win. I don’t care how tiny you think it is.
Here’s where you want to be prepared to hear your brain tell you that there isn’t anything worth celebrating. It’s a lie. There is something that is a “win” for YOU. Maybe you got out of bed this morning OR did something you’ve been putting off. Maybe you finally completed a project or made the decision to start one. All these are WINS!!! Now take a few minutes and see what comes up for you…..
Step 2: Celebrate that win! Put on your favorite song and dance. Spend a few minutes indulging yourself in a good book. Check out a few works from your favorite artist. It doesn’t matter as long as it feels good to you. The goal is to do something a little physical in celebration.
When we can spend even a few minutes focusing on when we have been successful it helps us feel good and tell our brains to find more. This is what will lead you to feeling more confident TODAY!
