I created an instagram account In January 2020 just to document my 2020 adventure by sharing images and experiences along the way. It’s been fun to discover new people and interact on a new-ish-to-me platform. Every time I post, I have to make decisions on what to share (or not). While social media can be a great tool to share my images, I have made a conscious decision NOT to share what I consider my BEST images. At least, not yet. I’ll be revealing those at my home exhibition and I finally set a date!
March 6, 2021! I have so much left to experience, learn and do! I want to wait until that date to really share my images so I can give them the credit they deserve as a symbol of my hard work and perseverance. If I share them on IG first, not only do I feel that it lessens the impact of my images but it doesn’t give me the opportunity to fine tune any editing or change my mind. I’ve put in a TON of mental and physical effort as well as time and money and want the reveal to be thoughtful and meaningful.
What do I have left to do?? Well, it feels like EVERYTHING! I’m still taking photos whenever I can. I’ve been learning and practicing editing skills a nd have a backlog of images to work on. My hope it that I can spend my “extra” time between now and Christmas doing those so I can figure out which ones I want to show. At some point I’ll need to name my images. I’m still not sure about that whole process. I know I want a title to be simple but also descriptive. Seems like an art unto itself. I also bought a printer and will be printing my own work. I’ll have to do a full post on that! I also have the actually event to prep for. I’m putting up faux walls in my home to help simplify the space that my art will go on and to serve as a “one way” walkthrough. The pandemic situation will still be around in March and is something I would like to be cognizant of. I’ll be figuring out the best way to manage that so any suggestions are welcome! I’m sure there is more I haven’t even thought of yet….
So, March 6, 2021 will be the culmination of working my way to accomplishing an impossible goal. Put it on the calendar! It’s on mine. Until then, please enjoy this little vignette of some pink-coated mud at my local creek. I felt compelled to go back and visit this area again and I was not disappointed! This image took me 2 tries. Since this area isn’t flat, I knew I had to focus stack several images. I think I did 3 or 4 but, when I returned home to process the images, I discovered that wasn’t enough. I reach out to Jennifer Renwick (I consider her to be a mud photography expert) and she gave me some SUPER helpful advice! So, here is the final version. Because the mud is so curled, I had to stack at 7 images. Whew! I’m glad it all was still there! Next post: Traveling during a pandemic year.
