Today I’m having a TON of thoughts about all kinds of things and I’m struggling to put them into words. They are floating amorphous in my head! I like to do “thought downloads” to write all of these undefined thoughts and take a look at them a little more closely. Here are some of the photography related thoughts I’m having today:
- I don’t know if I’ll be able to accomplish my goal.
- I know what I’m trying to say with my photos.
- I want to find places near me that are inspiring.
- My images are not as good as other’s
- There are some awesome sunsets in Texas
- I want to find a beautiful place to capture the sunsets.
- I judge my images too harshly.
- I want to do a workshop but am unsure with who, where and the cost.
- I want to travel somewhere amazing in hopes of taking better images.
- Photography is an expensive pastime!
- I have fun using my camera.
Once I do this, I look at all of them. Then I can decide which ones I want to believe (or not)) and which ones I want to work on. I do WANT to work on one and here’s how I go about it. Using this “model” I can see how this thought is affecting me and I can change it to a more intentional thought to create the feeling and results I want.
- C Circumstance – I look at photographs made by myself and others.
- T Thought – My photographs are not as good as others
- F Feeling – Inferior
- A Action – Take less photos…Why try??
- R Result – I don’t improve
Here is a model of a more intentional thought I would like to have instead:
- C Circumstance – I look at photographs made by myself and others.
- T Thought – I‘m creating my own unique art.
- F Feeling – Appreciation for the work I’ve done so far.
- A Action – Continue to learn and practice.
- R Result – Make more images I enjoy.
I definitely WANT to acknowledge all the work I’ve done so far. It’s been an incredible amount of learning and growth and I don’t want to discount that in any way. So, when I start to negatively compare myself to others, I’m going to work on having my new thought, “I’m creating my own unique art.”. In time, I can change that thought if it doesn’t serve me anymore.
On a lighter note, Texas has some pretty amazing sunsets and I’ve been looking for a great place to capture them. Turns out I just need to use my iPhone in my driveway! Well, I did find another place but that will take a little more planning and patience to get the image I want. Enjoy my little slice of Texas!!
